Cyclones and pre-separators

A cyclone separates the bulk of the material before the air reaches the filter. That extends filter life, lowers running costs and makes emptying easier to handle. Here you will find both plain pre-separators and units with a built-in absolute filter — for containment of potent substances and for processes with food contact requirements.

When a cyclone pays for itself

A cyclone separates the bulk of the material before the air reaches the filter. That extends filter life, lowers running costs and makes emptying easier to handle.

The arithmetic

A cyclone pays for itself where filter replacement is expensive or awkward, and in regulated environments it is both. A filter change in an OEB environment requires full personal protective equipment, documentation and often shutting the area down. The fewer times it has to be done, the better. With large material volumes or coarser dust the effect is pronounced.

Two types, two purposes

A plain pre separator relieves the filter and makes emptying easier. A unit with an integrated absolute filter, by contrast, is a containment solution in its own right, for potent compounds where the material must be sealed, and for processes with food contact requirements.

At point of source extraction

Cyclones are also used as pre separators for extraction directly at the source, where material volumes are high and an ordinary vacuum would have its filter loaded in hours rather than weeks.

Unsure which cyclone suits your process?

The choice depends on air flow, the nature of the material and the requirements placed on emptying. Tell us about your process — we will help you choose.
